an international community initiative
Battle Creek, MI, 1880 |
As a recent member of the Battle Creek community, I am full of excitement in the exploration of my new family - who is here, and what is their story?
Being a first-generation immigrant I am particularly fascinated by those who have traveled long and far, across borders and oceans and skies, to make this city of light and heart as their home.
The world may be getting smaller, yet Battle Creek is getting bigger: in its diversity, cultural richness, and community growth.
The international community in this city has a lot to offer, and I wish to find out all about it.
One person at a time
Like all community-building efforts, I have to start small, say, by meeting you on the street, in the coffee shop, or at your home.
This blog will be a journal and a map, as I share personal stories of individuals and their families from their home country to the heart of Michigan.
This initiative will also be a hub for all things international in Battle Creek - establishments, projects, festivities, or simply fun things to share. A recipe is the best way to gain insight to a culture. A picture tells you all you need to know.
We invite input from you. Comments, suggestions, or your own story to share. Event announcements and essay submissions are absolutely welcome.
Let's make this blog a home.
